Hawaiian koa wood and resin colorflow painting in integral sapele frame.
48" h x 36" w
Honoring the wood feels important to me. The color and figure of koa is so rich and diverse, it inspired a new series following the lines of Tropical Modernism.
The circles in this piece were turned on my lathe. I then steam bent the strips of koa to create the separate color zones.
Currently on display at the Hawaii Wood Guild Exhibit at Isaacs Art Center.
