Catching a sunrise, full of spectacular colors, and watching the way it lights up the ocean is an awe-inspiring experience. I wanted to capture that in this large piece. The way the curly koa shimmers in the light, along with the shimmer of the metallic pigments in the painted portion, and the real sand for the beach--it created a piece that represents that special time of day for me.
